Buck Walden, the proud owner of Bucks BBQ & Burgers, was born and raised in Corinth. He says that he always knew he wanted to run his own restaurant in Corinth. His friends remind him of this fact regularly saying that he talked about his dream of opening a restaurant here even when he was in high school. Pursuing that dream, Buck attended Ole Miss and graduated with a degree in Restaurant Hospitality.
After college, Buck opened a restaurant in Oxford and then another in Tupelo. Even though he lived out of Corinth for a while, he told us, “My mother was getting older, and I knew I always wanted to come back home and do this and knew a lot of people wanted me to. So, here we are.”
Buck opened his restaurant about five years ago, and it has been nicknamed by locals as “Home Base” because of its laid-back, safe atmosphere. Serving a wide variety of delicious pub-style foods, he told us that the 3 most popular dishes are the quesadilla, burger, and ribs.
Buck loves working with his staff, and he says more than anything they have each other’s backs. While talking about his team, he told us, “We are like a dysfunctional family. We are going to have fun, we are going to do what we do, and we are going to enjoy what we do. The main thing is to have fun.”
Buck and his staff run on some tried and true principles: “Treat people how you’d expect to be treated, keep the food right and the drinks cold. If that don’t work, we’ll try something else.”
On Friday nights, Bucks BBQ & Burgers hosts live bands, and people normally pack the place out. Buck said, “On a perfect day, we are busy and hit a good number. Every basket that goes out is presented well and tastes well, and you can see that people enjoy what you do. That’s really, really neat.”
What Buck Loves About Corinth
Buck loves that he sees so many familiar faces and runs into old friends now that he lives in Corinth. He says it was great growing up with his friends and then moving back to see many of them on a regular basis.
Even when he’s on vacation, people will say to Buck, “I bet you know so-and-so from Corinth,” and he almost always does. He said that this tight-knit community has a nickname to people in Mississippi: Corinth’s Army.
Why Buck Chooses ACE
“I got ACE Fiber because it’s local. A lot of those guys are good friends of mine and come in here and eat. It was just a no-brainer to go ahead and get ACE Fiber.”
Buck said that his restaurant used to run on [the other guys], but the service just didn’t hold up. If something went wrong, it took a day or two for someone to get there and resolve the issue. Compared to ACE, Buck said, “All it takes is a phone call now. If I didn’t know them, I know them now, and I’ve got their number and they’re here. That’s Customer Service I’d say.”
